Create fun, hands-on, visual artwork, use your imagination and help the environment – all at the same time, and for FREE! Activities use repurposed materials collected from the Atlanta Arts Festival and Piedmont Park to create individual and collaborative artworks. These green creations enhance the park, lessening the environmental impact of the event. RE-art center is proud to feature working artists as well as non-profit visual art service organizations.
Last year’s literature will become colorful rolled paper beads and then jewelry housed in origami paper boxes. Plastic water and drink bottles become a fantastic Chihuly style sculpture. If you find something on the ground at Piedmont Park, pick it up! Add it to the wall sized trash weaving. Or bring it to our print maker, for printmaking surprises!
Activities include:
Magic Wand making. The Amazing Randy Taylor, art educator and art re-enactor puts the “Magic” in your recycled materials wand!
Printmaking. Objects found in Piedmont Park, both natural and recycled, create surprise imagery printed on your handmade papers or cloths.
Seed magnets. Led by Oakhurst Community Garden educators and volunteers, this project serves to remind us to grow and eat local food! www.oakhurstgarden.org
Recycled paper making. SCAD art students will assist participants in creating handmade paper collage bookmarks. www.scad.edu/atlanta
Collage on panel. Art Space International volunteers will use “ephemera,” another name for old paper, to assist participants in creating an interactive and ongoing collage. www.artspaceatl.com
Found object sculpture. Regina Brandt from the International Pre School helps kids’ imaginations go wild by turning found materials into FANTASTIC sculptures!
Local arts and cultural organizations have the opportunity to distribute information about their organizations and activities. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about cultural events and organizations in Atlanta.
